Sixers 2016

As reported by Boti Nagy yesterday, the Sixers off-season moves have begun with the team locking up DJ for 3 years. Johnson joins Mitch Creek as the only certain starters, with Nagy also stating is his article...

"Adam Gibson, Anthony Petrie and Brendan Teys are the core players Wright is seeking to retain alongside Johnson and Creek, with two imports and three news faces."

That would mean we say goodbye to Big Red, PC and BJ. Brock Motum is under contract but likely to try to get back into the NBA or a European team if that doesn't happen. Jamar's future is also uncertain. He was big for the Sixers last year but Wright is likely to roll the dice with a fresh face.

Here's how I'd like the roster to pan out.

BACKCOURT
Adam Gibson
Mitch Creek
Brendan Teys
Hugh Greenwood/Jason Cadee
Erik Burdon

FRONTCOURT
Torrey Craig
Anthony Petrie
Oscar Forman/Clint Steindl

BIGS
Daniel Johnson
Import

Starters:
PG: Gibson
SG: Creek
SF: Craig
PF: Johnson
C: Import

That roster would be exactly 70 points (based upon Greenwood being a "5") and should fit in $ wise.

Here's how I arrived at this roster.

Adam Gibson
Gotta bring the captain back. Had some sensational games early but tailed off in the second half of the season. Needs to be given a run as the clear "1" man and flanked with some athletes and shooters. Will be one of Joey's priorities.

Brendan Teys
Has blossomed under Wright and would only likely leave if offered "indecent proposal"  $ and playing time.

Hugh Greenwood/Jason Cadee
One of the higher profile graduating college players and without a home NBL team. Adelaide should be as good a chance as anyone to land him. Would be a great fit in Adelaide. Cadee would be another to consider but unlikely to leave NSW and probably would understand his limited chances in Adelaide.

Erik Burdon
He and Daly are both valued as "1's" but he'd be worth a look due to his stronger outside game.

Torrey Craig
Worth securing if only to stop him destroying us. Has range and an array of athletic moves. Sort of player Sixers have needed for a while.

Anthony Petrie
Can't break up the band. Likely would want to play again with Gibbo and for Joey. NSW might come calling though......

Oscar Forman/Clint Steindl
Would be great for the Big O to finish his career at home. Experience and outside game would be highly valued. If he's not a chance, Steindl also worth pursuing. Is younger but not sure he wants to go to his third club in three years.

Mitch Creek
Is all signed up. Should be a breakout year if he stays injury free and further develops an outside shot. That's all that's stopping him from joining the top tier of local players.

DJ
Looked great on his return before fading in the playoffs. Proven scorer and looks to developing his defensive game. Sixers must flank him with a........

BIG Import
DJ has never played along a 6"10 brute and this is the sort of second import Sixers need. Should pursue a throwback rim protector and enforcer who is happy just blocking shots and getting boards.

Wilson and Motum will be huge losses but this team is athletic, versatile and has more dangerous outside threats. To make the finals, Adelaide needs to be much better on the defensive end and more dangerous from outside. I think this roster ticks those boxes. The challenge will be how much better the rest of the league gets. Expect Melbourne,Perth and Sydney to again land big players. New Zealand has Ced-Jax back so they'll be a playoff team. Cairns were grand finalists and will also be tough to remove from the top 4.Townsville and Wollongong, who are both just battling to stay alive, figure to be also rans unless they land some top level talent at bargain basement prices.
