The Numbers: Adelaide vs Perth (9/12/12)

After yesterday's game, I jumped onto the Hoops forum to see what other fans thought of yesterday's result. Instead of bagging regular whipping boy Steven Weigh, quite a few fans had turned their attention to Nathan Crosswell. The veteran guard had a pretty average game going by the "eye test" and his box score (0pts on 0/3 shooting including an 0/4 free throws, 2 rebounds and 1 assist) but surprisingly he registered a +3 for the game , the best +/- for a 36er yesterday. Was he lucky? Was he on against Perth's lesser lineups? Whatever the case may be, it did stand out compared to Jason Cadee, who registered a team worst -16.

Crosswell is a better defender than Cadee and does combine well with Adam Gibson. Lineups featuring the Crosswell/Gibson back court feature in two of our five best performing lineups and only in one of our worst five. For the season, Crosswell sits at -1 (equal 3rd amongst the regulars), with Cadee sitting at -48 (worst amongst the regulars). I'm not advocating starting Crosswell as Cadee is the future but it won't surprise to see more and more of Crosswell. If Marty wants to save his job and get this make-or-break season back on tracks, he may be forced to give more time to Crosswell in the interim at the expense of one of his prized recruits and most loyal backers.
