Preview: 36ers v Taipans

Tomorrow night the Sixers take on Cairns, hoping to secure back-to-back wins for the first time this year. Here's some of the things to watch for:

Wilson & Warren vs Warren & Creek
Jamar Wilson is a very efficient scorer, shooting a shade under 50% from the field and not taking a whole lot of 3's for a guard (although he's hitting at 39%). He's shooting over 80% from the line too. Most surprising is his 5.5 boards per game- not bad for a 6"1 guy. Lining up next to Wilson is Andrew Warren, also a reasonably efficient scorer who has come to Australia after a fine college career.

Adelaide will try to curtail the Taipans import duo with the new backcourt of Mitch Creek and Chris Warren. Chris Warren's scoring is down with his move to PG but he's still a threat and should thrive being guarded by a similarly sized countryman. Mitch Creek has had a few average games of late but in this game will be asked to primarily clamp down on Andrew Warren. It will help him playing at home and fans will be hoping he can get involved on offense (ideally with some dunks and not three attempts).

The 36ers have the athleticism up front to give Cairns fits. DJ and Diamon should be too much for Loughton and Crosswhite. Both guys are pros and will throw what they can at our guys but you'd be disappointed if they didn't contribute 4o between them. On the other end DJ and DS must avoid foul trouble, both Cairns big men have a few tricks that could draw quick fouls which will reduce the effectiveness of our guys.

Defence, Defence, Defence
There won't be too many open looks or easy layups against these Taipans so Adelaide will need to play smart and take good shots. Warren will need to play a true point guards game and look frequently to get it into the bigs.

As written in my last blog, Nathan Herbert seems to be some sort of indicator as to how the team will fare. A key game for him to have an impact as he'll be asked to play some tight D on the Cairns imports. Ng should also see some minutes and we'll know pretty quckly if he'll be a contributor or not. Cairns won't give him easy looks but if he can have one of "freak" games it will unsettle the Taipans D and open things up for everyone else.

Prediction: Adelaide by 8
